The Noble County health officer, Dr. Terry Gaff, has issued a swimming-advisory for the West Lakes chain area. A single test result received on Friday, June 22, 2018 showed a high E. coli concentration in the sand bar area of Steinberger Lake. No other samples had been taken at that time for any other lake in the West Lakes chain so it is not known at this time if they are affected.
Multiple samples were taken this morning (Saturday, 6/23/18) in Steinberger Lake and Tamarac Lake to determine if other areas of the Westlake’s chain are affected. The results of these tests will not be available until tomorrow, June 24, 2018.
This is simply a precautionary advisory measure for swimming or allowing pets to drink the lake water until health officials can attempt to determine the source and extent of the problem.
